First, ask yourself what you want
from life. Do you want to seek success? Do you want an active role in the civic life of your
community? To meet and work with new and interesting new people and to enlarge your social contact
with others of similar age, economic positions and interests? If so, you should
invest your time in the Wausau Area Jaycees!
The Jaycee organization is based on the concept of developing the whole person by
utilizing three essential functions: Individual Development, Management Development,
and Community Development. These three functions form a triangle to represent the Jaycees'
goal, which is to enhance the potential of each individual Jaycee member, as well as benefit
the community in which they live.
Individual Development
The Jaycees is an organization that builds leaders. Providing the opportunity for each member
to reach his or her full potential is the function of the Individual Development Program. The
following are some programs the Wausau Area Jaycees offer to our members:
Personal Financial Planning
Spiritual Development
Stress Management
Communications Dynamics
Speak-Up (Public speaking skills development)
Management Development
The Wausau Area Jaycees offer members the opportunity to improve their management skills by serving
on the Board of Directors or helping run a project. Being an officer and working on projects provides
the member with experience and training in:
Project planning
Personnel management
Public speaking
Public relations
Leadership skills
Knowledge of community activities
All these management tools are marketable skills that can be applied to our jobs and professions.
Where else but in Jaycees can an individual practice leadership skills without fear of failure or employer
intervention? Take up one of these projects to help improve those skills:
Chapter news letter
4th of July calibration
Haunted House
Sandbox fill
Awards
Socials
Community Development
Community Development benefits our community and our members. The member gains valuable experience and skills
from running a project and the community gains monetary donations or services provided through the project. Some
of the projects we sponsor for our community are:
Scheduled Blood Drives
Rabies Clinic
Pepsi Pitch, Hit & Run
Pepsi Punt, Pass, and Kick
Adopt-A-Highway
The Jaycee Creed
From "It's Greek to Me!", the US Jaycees member orientation manual.
A statement of philosophy and beliefs adopted by The U.S. Junior Chamber and JCI (Junior Chamber International).
The Creed was written by the late C. William Brownfield of Columbus, Ohio, in 1946. The Creed was adopted by the U.S.
Jaycees in 1947. The words "faith in God" were added in 1951.
We Believe...
That faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life;
That the brotherhood of Man transcends the sovereignty of nations;
That economic justice can best be won, by free men, through free enterprise;
That government should be of laws, rather than of men;
That Earth's great treasure lies in human personality;
And that service to humanity is the BEST WORK OF LIFE!!!
